IBM
iSeries Model 890 is an outstanding server which can run applications in
multiple operating environments simultaneously. Two processor features and two
Options Editions are used to help match workload to the proper processor for
today's needs and the needs of tomorrow.
The 890 server has performance and functional characteristics capable of running
the widest range of application workloads including e-business, WebSphere, Java,
Linux, client-server, ported UNIX, and Domino, as well as on-line transaction
processing (OLTP).
Model 890 can be installed in a general office environment, but a separate area
is recommended for the 890 and its I/O with appropriate electrical and air
conditioning supplies. The 890 consists of two physical enclosures. A large/tall
enclosure and a smaller enclosure. The tall enclosure contains the processors,
memory and HSL attachments and is called the system unit. The smaller enclosure
contains PCI slots and disk drives and is called the base I/O tower. The 890
system unit is 2025mm tall, 1494mm deep, and 785mm wide. Or in inches, it is
79.7in tall, 58.8in deep, and 30.9in wide. These dimensions do not include the
base I/O tower or any optional I/O towers or external I/O.
The Model 890 has space for up to 45 disk drives in the base I/O tower without
using an optional I/O tower. Up to 47 optional I/O towers can be attached via
High Speed Link (HSL) loops providing space for up to 2047 disk drives and up to
672 PCI slots.
